A loving family of orphans is overseen by a woman they call Mama. Everyday is peaceful and fun. Sometimes, children get adopted and move away from the farm they all live on. Absolutely nothing ever goes wrong ever and this show is warm and cuddly. I'm also lying. A lot. Watch this show it's absolutely amazing.

Fall 2018
The intro music is: ISnAK: "17 Sai" by Haruka to Miyuki

Hitomi long ago lost the ability to see color, and blames the mild magical abilities common to her family. Her grandmother sees things differently, and magically sends her 60 years into the past on a journey of self-discovery and friendship. There, she meets and gradually opens up to members of the photography club, and in so doing starts to recover her colors. A soft, enjoyable drama with some beautiful use of color. Plus a fancy magical fish drawing… of mystery!

Planet With
The Con Artists: Rolling Review #12
Summer 2018
The intro music is: "One Unit" by Minami
The outro music is: "Rainbow Planet" by Mai Fuchigami
Soya is the lone survivor of xenocide. He has a maid and a weird cat dude in his house to help him cope. He becomes the villain, then he becomes the good guy, and then love saves the day. Or something. The dragon is fat and ugly, the CG is weird and ugly and nobody should ever allow Japan to read Arthur C. Clarke's Childhood's End again. This show just rips off the names and the concepts and then has a catbot fight a dogbot. No I'm not kidding. Were you hoping all the psychological plot stuff was going to pay off? Yeah...so were we...

The Con Artists: Rolling Review #11
Spring 2018
The intro music is: GK OP: "Winding Road" by MAN WITH A MISSION
The outro music is: GK ED: "Hibana" by THE SIXTH LIE
Immortal Sugimoto, a seemingly unkillable former soldier from the Russo-Japanese war, goes on a hunt for a massive gold treasure with the unlikely aid of Asirpa, a young Ainu girl. Others, notably a rogue element of the Japanese military, are also searching for it. What follows is a brutal, violent, and frequently deadly story that is generally well-told and solidly animated. Just watch out for rogue Orca whale attacks… on land.

A Place Further than the Universe
The Con Artists: Rolling Review #10
Winter 2018
The intro music is: "The Girls Are Alright!" by saya
The outro music is: "Koko kara, Koko kara" by Mari Tamaki (Inori Minase), Shirase Kobuchizawa (Kana Hanazawa), Hinata Miyake (Yuka Iguchi), Yuzuki Shiraishi (Saori Hayami)
What is beyond than the universe? It's Antarctica and you need to pay your own way to come along if you’re a crazy team of high school girls. If you take up the whole bed I will murder you. The boat is going to make you sea sick and as cute as the penguins are...they stink REALLY bad. Shirase, Mari, Hinata and Yuzuki take the trip of a lifetime and learn valuable lessons along the way. This show is gorgeous, and heartbreaking, and heartwarming all at the same time. There's sexy meat festivals and Diamond Mineral Powerful Water. Watch this show now, or face the durian challenge. Was it a sexy gravure photo shoot?!?

Children of the Whales (Kujira no Kora wa Sajou ni Utau)
The Con Artists: Rolling Review #9
Fall 2017
The intro music is: CotW OP: "Sono Saki" by RIRIKO
The outro music is: CotW ED: "Hashidairo" by rionos
A fascinating look at the unique lifestyle of a civilization built on the back of a massive sand-sea-faring “whale”. At least for one episode. Then a bunch of cat-eared clown troopers (no joke) show up and wreck the place. The rest of the show is a mixture of uninteresting characters, impossibly overdramatized scenes, and laughable and confusing allies and enemies. One of the fastest transitions from “interesting premise” to “godawful execution” we’ve seen in a long time.

Made in Abyss
The Con Artists: Rolling Review #8
Summer 2017
The intro music is: "Deep in Abyss" by Riko (Miyu Tomita) and Regu (Mariya Ise)
The outro music is: "Tabi no Hidarite, Saihate no Migite" by Riko (Miyu Tomita) and Regu (Mariya Ise) (eps 2-9)
There's a large pit in the center of town. It's known as the Abyss and some say it holds a bounty of treasure. If you train to be a White Whistle you can venture far below into the Abyss. When Riko finds a robot boy, she finally seizes the chance to pursue her long lost mother. Diving deep into the Abyss she'll encounter great mystery and even greater danger. Don't go towards those cries for help. The Corpse Eaters are luring you in. Don't try and climb back up from Level 4 or deeper. You will straight up die. Bring a box of tissues because you are going to cry while watching this show. At least the water bears are adorable.

Little Witch Academia (TV)
The Con Artists: Rolling Review #7
Winter/Spring 2017
The intro music is:"Shiny Ray" by YURiKA (eps 2-13)
The outro music is: "Hoshi wo Todoreba" by Yuiko Ohara (eps 2-13, 25)
Harry Potter and the Shiny Chariots of Fire is about a young witch named Akko who can't do much of anything right magically! Good thing she’s got the power! of! FRIENDSHIP! She's got to collect the seven words and save the day along with all her magical gal pals. Bonus points for witches flying on evil Roombas, that time everybody gets covered in moss, and magical creature union negotiation. Diana is the best character. Fight me.
